If you are coming to or from Juan Santamaría airport by San Jose, keep on reading. If you are coming from Liberia, this does not concern you. Get out of here!
So, if you are still here, you are coming to Costa Rica via Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría and you need a place to stay close to the airport to catch up on your beauty sleep. Maybe, you are about to head home (sad) and your trip is over but you still need a place where you can relax close to Juan Santamaría airport. Either way, you’ve come to the right place.
Sure, you may think that you will want to stay in the actual city of San Jose to be close to the airport, but the truth is, the airport is about a thirty minute drive to San Jose, if not more, depending where you stay. Plus, San Jose is big; really big. So if you want a solid choice close to the airport to make life easier, you will actually want to stay in San Jose’s smaller nearby cousin, Alajuela, which is only 5 minutes from Juan Santamaría airport in San Jose.
Alajuela is a small, genuine Costa Rica city, no glitz or glamour, and its accommodation options are sparse. Hotel Casa Tago, is a solid choice that is only 5 minutes Juan Santamaría airport.
Hotel Casa Tago consider themselves a Bed and Breakfast, and since I stayed there, I can understand why. The staff has a helpful and almost familial demeanor, where they will insist on helping you regardless of the nature of your request. The hotel includes breakfast so that you can be well-fed before or after your flight.
One of the more important things to remember is that Hotel Casa Tago has a variety of room accommodations for every budget. You can opt for double rooms with fan or air conditioning that come with both shared bathroom (cheaper) and private bathroom (more expensive).
The hotel boasts a small but pleasant pool area where you can take a refreshing dip after or before your flight as long as it’s not too late, as the pool closes rather early at 8 pm. The hotel infrastructure is a mix of indoor and outdoor so you will find yourself walking outside to get to your room amongst plants and statues. There is also a small room with tables where you can do your research for your upcoming trip or tie up loose ends before you head home.
My stay at Hotel Casa Tago, was made extra special by the receptionist, Rebecca, who also happens to be the artist of the pretty murals on Hotel Casa Tago’s walls.
Hotel Casa Tago $30-$55
